WNBA Recap & Results | September 30, 2026

One series ended, another lives on. Atlanta cleaned up the turnover-fueled win from Game 1 and swept Washington 2-0 behind another dominant defensive effort. And Arike Ogunbowale put together one of the great individual playoff performances in recent memory, scoring 45 to drag Dallas past Golden State and force a decisive Game 3 back in the Bay Area. Here's how it all went down, plus a look at how the preview predictions held up, and where each series stands.

Dream Sweep Mystics, Advance to Semifinals

Atlanta Dream 93, Washington Mystics 75

Washington needed to fix the turnover problem that sank Game 1, and instead it got worse. Atlanta led by 7 after a quarter, got outscored in the second, then buried Washington with a 24-23 third and a 28-17 fourth, forcing 19 turnovers into 23 points while committing just eight of their own. Final: 93-75, Atlanta sweeps the series 2-0 and advances to the semifinals to face New York.

Jordin Canada delivered a double-double, going 6-of-16 from the field (4-of-8 from three) for 19 points at 54.8% true shooting with 11 assists and a single turnover. Allisha Gray added 22 points on 56.9% true shooting with four steals, and Rhyne Howard shot 4-of-8 (66.7% from three) for 15 points with four assists. Angel Reese contributed 15 points and seven rebounds with three blocks. Atlanta's 23 assists on 30 made field goals and their 2.88 assist-to-turnover ratio reflected exactly the defense-forces-chaos formula the preview identified from Game 1, run back for a second straight blowout.

Washington got individual scoring but never solved the turnover problem. Sonia Citron led the Mystics with 25 points on 70.1% true shooting, going 10-of-11 from the line. Kiki Iriafen posted a double-double with 15 points and 16 rebounds despite a minus-17. But Washington's 19 turnovers, converted into 23 Atlanta points, and their 37.9% shooting as a team reflected exactly the problem the preview flagged as the only thing that mattered, and it never got fixed.

Ogunbowale's 45 Drags Wings Back From the Brink

Golden State Valkyries 100, Dallas Wings 108

This one swung all night. Golden State took the first quarter 26-23, Dallas won the second 27-19 to lead 50-45 at the half, and the Valkyries answered with a 29-point third to go up 74-72 heading into the fourth. Neither team led by more than eight. Gabby Williams' two free throws with 14.6 seconds left put Golden State up 93-90, and then Arike Ogunbowale pulled up from 23 feet with 4.1 seconds on the clock and tied it. Overtime was hers too: a 28-foot bank shot to open it, Aziaha James to make it 98-95, Williams' three from 26 feet to tie it at 98 with 2:26 left, a pair of flagrant-foul free throws each way to 100-100, and then Ogunbowale's step-back three with 1:46 to go, 103-100, the Wings' fifth three of her night and the last points Golden State would ever get close to. Dallas closed it at the line. Final: 108-100, and the series goes back to the Bay Area for a decisive Game 3 on Friday, October 2.

Arike Ogunbowale was magnificent, going 12-of-23 from the field (5-of-8 from three) for 45 points at 72.8% true shooting, adding seven rebounds, four assists, three steals, and 16-of-18 from the free throw line. Alysha Clark was nearly flawless in support, going 6-of-7 (3-of-4 from three) for 21 points without a turnover and a team-best plus-15. Aziaha James added 13 off the bench. Dallas went 32-of-37 from the line, 86.5%, which is where a game it never led by more than eight was finally won, and it was the second-scorer night the preview said Dallas needed to survive, even with Paige Bueckers shooting 3-of-13.

Golden State had the lead twice when it mattered, up two after three quarters and up three with 14.6 seconds left, and could not hold either. Gabby Williams was brilliant in the loss, 36 points on 12-of-23 (5-of-12 from three) with seven assists and four steals, 7-of-7 at the line, and the three that tied it at 98 in overtime. Kayla Thornton added 13 on 3-of-4 from deep. But the Valkyries committed 11 turnovers that became 16 Dallas points, sent the Wings to the line 37 times, and scored seven points in the extra five minutes, and a chance to close the series out slipped away in a game that was a coin flip from the opening tip.

DAL 108 · GSV 100

ATL & DAL Win.

Wednesday closed one series and kept another alive on the back of one of the best individual scoring nights of the postseason. Atlanta's sweep of Washington sends the Dream to a semifinal date with New York, the team that just made history by eliminating a No. 1 seed. And Ogunbowale's 45 points saved Dallas's season, forcing a third and deciding game back in Golden State's building on Friday.

Star of the Night: Arike Ogunbowale, Dallas Wings

45 points | 12-of-23 FG | 72.8% TS | 16-of-18 FT | 7 rebounds | 4 assists | 3 steals

Ogunbowale delivered one of the great win-or-go-home performances in recent playoff memory, carrying Dallas across every category while the season hung on each possession. Williams's 36-point answer for Golden State and Canada's 19-point, 11-assist double-double in Atlanta's sweep both made strong cases, but nothing matched 45 points on 72.8% true shooting with the season on the line.

Dud of the Night: Paige Bueckers, Dallas Wings

10 points | 3-of-13 FG | 23.1% field goal percentage | 4 assists

Dallas's other star had nothing going all night, and it was Ogunbowale's heroics that bailed out an otherwise ice-cold game from the Wings' second scorer. Iriafen's minus-17, rebounding-heavy night for Washington was in the conversation, but Bueckers going 3-of-13 in a win-or-go-home game, with her team needing every bucket it could find, is the clearer dud.

How We Did: Checking the Preview Predictions

Wednesday's picks went 1-for-2 on sides, but a perfect 2-for-2 on totals.

Atlanta @ Washington: The preview leaned Atlanta -3.5 with the over at 165.5, pointing to Atlanta's road numbers and this series' tendency to run hot. Atlanta won by 18, comfortably covering, and the total came in at 168, just over the number. A clean sweep on the correct call.

Golden State @ Dallas: The preview leaned Golden State -3.5 with the over at 155.5, expecting the Valkyries to close out the sweep even in a lower-scoring home environment for Dallas. Golden State lost outright behind Ogunbowale's 45-point night, meaning the side missed, but the total came in at 208, blowing well past the number as neither team's defense showed up. The side missed, but the over call held up in resounding fashion.

The headline takeaway: Dallas's desperation and one historic individual performance were enough to flip a game the numbers favored Golden State to win comfortably, while both games ran well over their totals, continuing a pattern of elimination-stakes playoff basketball trending toward more scoring, not less.

Where Each Series Stands

First Round, best-of-three: No. 4 Atlanta defeats No. 5 Washington 2-0 and advances to the semifinals to face No. 8 New York. No. 3 Las Vegas and No. 6 Indiana are tied 1-1, with Game 3 on Thursday, October 1 in Las Vegas. No. 2 Golden State and No. 7 Dallas are tied 1-1, with Game 3 on Friday, October 2 in Golden State's building, the higher seed's home court.

Two seasons end this week: the loser of Thursday's Indiana–Las Vegas game and the loser of Friday's Golden State–Dallas game. The winners meet in the other semifinal. New York already knows its opponent: Atlanta, with Game 1 of that series set for Sunday, October 4.
