WNBA Recap & Results | October 21, 2026

Atlanta took control of the WNBA Finals in front of its home crowd, and Golden State never held a lead. The Dream beat the Valkyries 97-71 in Game 3, finishing 26 up, and now lead the series 2-1, two wins from the first championship in franchise history. Angel Reese followed her historic Game 2 with 21 points and 12 rebounds, five Dream players scored in double figures, and Atlanta turned Golden State's 17 turnovers into 22 points while the Valkyries managed seven off Atlanta's 10. Here's how it went down, the card graded, and where the series stands.

Dream Roll to 97-71 Win, Take 2-1 Lead in the Finals

Golden State Valkyries 71, Atlanta Dream 97

Atlanta came out ready. The Dream took the first quarter 23-15, the kind of early cushion Golden State, which has made a habit of stealing games late, never really climbed out of. The Valkyries made it interesting, winning the second quarter 25-23, and an 8-0 run early in the third got them within one at 46-45. That was the last time it was close. From there, Atlanta outscored Golden State 51-26 the rest of the way.

The Dream took the game away one possession at a time. They outscored the Valkyries 25-12 over the rest of the third quarter, carried a 71-57 lead into the fourth, and won the final period 26-14 to turn a comfortable win into a rout. The recipe was the one Atlanta has used all postseason. The defense got its hands on everything, with nine steals, five of them from Rhyne Howard, and the offense lived in the paint, scoring 44 points inside to Golden State's 20, with 26 assists on 34 made field goals and just 10 turnovers. Atlanta shot 49.3% from the field and 40.9% from three, and Naz Hillmon made three of five from deep on her way to 15 points.

Reese was the constant. After her 30-and-16 night in Game 2, she followed up with 21 points and 12 rebounds on 7-of-12 shooting, 2-of-2 from three, and 5-of-5 at the line, with three steals. Howard added 16 points on those five steals, Hillmon had 15, Isobel Borlase had 12 with five rebounds, and Jordin Canada ran the offense with eight assists and six rebounds, though she turned it over four times. Allisha Gray shot 2-of-8 but still handed out six assists, and DeWanna Bonner added seven points and four rebounds.

Golden State could not find its footing. The Valkyries shot 34.8%, just 30.8% on twos, and while they did make 12 of 30 threes, they scored only 20 points in the paint and coughed it up 17 times. Tiffany Hayes scored 14, Cecilia Zandalasini had 13 with four threes, and Janelle Salaun had 13 with three. Gabby Williams had 15 points and eight assists but shot 5-of-18, her second rough night in a row after going 3-of-15 in Game 2, so she is 8-of-33 over the last two games. Veronica Burton went 1-of-7 for three points with three turnovers, and Kiah Stokes had two points, 11 rebounds, and three blocks. Atlanta, 0-10 in Finals games before Monday, is now 2-10 all time and 2-1 in this series.

ATL 97 · GSV 71

ATL Takes Game 3.

Golden State never led, and Atlanta turned 17 Valkyries turnovers into 22 points. Five Dream players reached double figures, and Angel Reese followed her historic Game 2 with 21 points and 12 rebounds. Game 4 is Saturday at noon CT at State Farm Arena.

Star of the Night: Angel Reese, Atlanta Dream

21 points | 7-of-12 FG | 2-of-2 from three | 5-of-5 FT | 12 rebounds | 3 steals | 73.9% TS

Reese followed her historic Game 2 with another double-double at elite efficiency, scoring inside and on the glass while Atlanta's defense took the game away. Howard's five steals, Hillmon's 15 points on 3-of-5 three-point shooting, and Zandalasini's four threes in defeat all made cases, but Reese was the player Golden State could not solve.

Dud of the Night: Veronica Burton, Golden State Valkyries

3 points | 1-of-7 FG | 3 turnovers | 4 fouls | 4 assists | 21.4% TS

Burton took seven shots and made one, turned it over three times, and was whistled for four fouls in a 26-point loss. Gabby Williams's 5-of-18 and four turnovers were in the conversation, but Burton's line was the emptier one.

How We Did: Checking the Card

Wednesday's card went 1-for-2: the side cleared and the total missed.

Golden State @ Atlanta: The preview leaned Atlanta -3.5 (Lean) with the under at 151.5 (Lean), with our number at an Atlanta win by 6 and a total of 146. Atlanta won by 26, 22.5 points past the number, so the side lean cleared. The total came in at 168, 16.5 points over the number, so the under lean missed. Our number had the right team and the right direction on the margin, but a 26-point game and a 168-point total were both far outside it.

The headline takeaway: the side lean was right, but both our margin and our total were well short of what a home Dream team playing its best basketball of the series produced. Our series call of Golden State in 6 now trails 2-1, and it would need Golden State to win Games 4, 5, and 6 in a row.
