The Week in Brief

Four gainers in ten. After last week’s board had exactly one green line and it was a ten-dollar card, that reads like a thaw. It isn’t, quite: three of the four are cards that cost between ten and fifteen dollars, and the biggest mover on the whole board did almost all of its climbing on a single Tuesday. The decliners are the familiar names doing the familiar thing. Prismatic Evolutions put two cards in the ten, Ascended Heroes put two more, and both sets are still being repriced downward a little every day.

The Chase Modern EN 50 stood at 36,896.91 on its 19 October refresh, -0.78% on the week against the 37,185.81 it printed on 12 October. Down, but gently, and it has been down gently on each of the last seven days rather than in one step.

First, a housekeeping line that matters. This is the first edition built on the rebuilt universe we promised on the how-it-works page: instead of the five priciest cards in every set back to XY, we now track every chase-tier card at $10 or more across Sword & Shield, Scarlet & Violet and Mega Evolution, from sets at least ninety days old. That is 759 cards against the old 350, and it is why the era table below has three rows instead of five and no “last week” column. XY and Sun & Moon are not gone from Tome; they just are not in this product’s universe. The how-it-works page is being updated to match.

Figures are chase tier, $10 and up, sets at least ninety days old, ungraded Near Mint.

Scarlet & Violet is the heaviest row: median card -2.00% with 79 percent of its 437 cards falling. Mega Evolution is a touch worse on the median at -2.69%, and it is only 78 cards, so one busy set can move it; this week that set was Ascended Heroes, where 24 of 28 fell and the median card lost 6.1 percent. Sword & Shield is the calm row again, and “calm” here still means two cards in three went down.

The whole board: median card -1.59% across 755 measured cards, 75 percent declining. 162 cards across our full coverage moved at least 5%, 36 of them up and 126 down. Three and a half decliners for every gainer at that size is the number to carry around this week.

Tournaments, briefly. Nice ran a Regional on Saturday and Sunday with 2,336 players, a week after Louisville drew 2,927. Neither shows up on the board, which is the same lesson as last week: tournament results move playables, and almost nothing on a chase-tier board is a playable. Last week’s two Early Signal grinds kept grinding: Cynthia’s Garchomp ex -9.4% and Mega Dragonite ex (290) -5.0% over the seven days since. Team Aqua’s Kyogre EX is a 2015 card and lives outside the new universe, so we can’t grade it here.

Seven day window, 11 to 18 October 2026. Prices are ungraded Near Mint; the price column links to TCGplayer. 406 of 755 measured cards moved at least 2 percent, 306 of those cleared the direction and confirmation rules, and 100 were held out. Five of the held-out cards moved enough to have made this ten; they’re named below.

Four gainers in ten, which is three more than last week. Three of them are cards under $15, and the one that isn’t is an $18 Arceus that did its whole week in a day. Read the green lines with that in mind.

Why It Moved

Context for each of the ten, with the daily closes where the shape of the week is the story.

1. Arceus VSTAR (Secret) (184)
Catalyst: none identified
The biggest move on the board and the one we trust least as a seven-day figure. $15.17 to $18.44, but look at the days: $15.17 → $14.64 → $17.89 → $18.02 → $18.30 → $18.44 → $18.44 → $18.44. Tuesday the 13th carried 99 percent of the whole week in one $3.25 step, and the three small rises that followed are what let it past our confirmation rule rather than into the held-out list. +10.3% over thirty days, sitting at the top of its range, repriced 21 of 30 days against a universe median of 22. Brilliant Stars as a set was -1.99% on the median with 8 of 11 down, so this is one card, not a set. We looked for a reason and did not find one: no reprint, no product, no event we could attach to it.

Arceus VSTAR (Secret) (184) 184/172, Brilliant Stars

2. Sylveon ex (156)
Catalyst: Prismatic Evolutions reprint wave — ETB reprints confirmed through distributors on 23 September, and TCGplayer’s 13 October price-trends column ties the set’s chase cards to the September supply
The most expensive card to fall this week and the second-biggest move on the board, $467.70 to $369.90. Down on five of seven days, repriced 16 of 30, -22.4% over fourteen days and -30.6% over thirty, at the bottom of its thirty-day range. The caveat: Sunday alone was a $53.48 step, 55 percent of the week, and Monday morning’s print had come part of the way back to $388.66. The month is not in doubt. The precise size of this one week is softer than the table makes it look. Prismatic Evolutions put 29 of its 33 cards down this week, median -2.51%.

Sylveon ex (156) 156/131, Prismatic Evolutions

3. Pikachu ex (276)
Catalyst: Ascended Heroes supply — staggered product waves and reprints, with buyer attention on 30th Celebration (TCGplayer price trends, 13 October); Delta Reign lands 6 November
On the board for a second straight week, and the cleanest decline on it. $810.72 to $685.22, down on all seven days, every bit of the movement in one direction. -26.0% over fourteen days, -28.3% over thirty. We said last week this card was bleeding in a straight line; it still is, and the line has not even wobbled. Ascended Heroes is the worst set in our coverage this week, 24 of 28 down with a median card at -6.13%. The set is a staggered release that keeps arriving, there’s a new Mega Evolution expansion three weeks out, and the most expensive card in the set is the one that feels it first.

Pikachu ex (276) 276/217, Ascended Heroes

4. Carmine (217)
Catalyst: none identified
$50.23 to $43.22, down on all seven days, largest single day only 30 percent of the week, repriced 22 of 30. -13.7% over fourteen days and -19.5% over thirty, at the bottom of its range. Twilight Masquerade had 18 of 23 cards down, so the set is leaning the same way, just not this hard. A trainer SIR falling steadily with no event attached is simply a card being marked down.

Carmine (217) 217/167, Twilight Masquerade

5. Spheal (199)
Catalyst: none identified; crossed our $10 floor
Here because it crossed a line we drew. $9.28 to $10.54, up on six of seven days, repriced 27 of 30, which is busy for a card this cheap. The longer view is calmer: +1.7% over fourteen days and +8.2% over thirty. A fifty-cent Spheal is a fifty-cent Spheal. It makes the board because 13.6 percent is 13.6 percent and the rules do not care about the dollar amount; you are allowed to.

Spheal (199) 199/191, Surging Sparks

6. N's Reshiram (167)
Catalyst: none identified
$12.64 to $14.23, up on six of seven, repriced 28 of 30, the largest day 31 percent of the week, which is about as evenly spread as a climb gets. One wrinkle: it is still -5.3% over thirty days, so this is a card recovering ground it lost in September rather than one breaking out, and it sits 56 percent of the way up its thirty-day range. Journey Together as a set went the other way, 8 of 10 down.

N's Reshiram (167) 167/159, Journey Together

7. Koraidon ex (247)
Catalyst: none identified
$21.98 to $19.30, down six of seven with one two-cent up day, repriced 24 of 30. -15.4% over fourteen days, -16.3% over thirty, at the bottom of its range. Scarlet & Violet base was -0.96% on the median with 14 of 19 down, so the box-art legendary is falling faster than its set. Nothing we could find happened to it.

Koraidon ex (247) 247/198, Scarlet & Violet

8. Emolga (112)
Catalyst: none identified
$10.26 to $11.50, up on five of seven days with one flat day and a one-cent dip, repriced 27 of 30 and +19.9% over fourteen days. The thirty-day number is only +2.2%, so like N’s Reshiram this is a bounce off a September low rather than a new high; it sits 90 percent up its range. Black Bolt is the biggest set in our coverage at 54 cards and 44 of them fell, so Emolga is the exception, not the set.

Emolga (112) 112/086, Black Bolt

9. Dragapult ex (165)
Catalyst: Prismatic Evolutions reprint wave — see Sylveon ex above
Prismatic Evolutions’ second entry and the tidier of the two. $101.78 to $90.18, down on six of seven with one flat day at the start, largest day 28 percent of the week, repriced 20 of 30. -13.3% over fourteen days, -13.5% over thirty, at the bottom of its range. Where Sylveon’s week leaned on Sunday, Dragapult’s was a little every day.

Dragapult ex (165) 165/131, Prismatic Evolutions

10. Iono's Bellibolt ex (279)
Catalyst: Ascended Heroes supply — see Pikachu ex above
Second appearance in three editions. $46.65 to $41.36, down on all seven days, repriced 24 of 30, -22.8% over fourteen days and -28.3% over thirty, at the bottom of its range. Most of the week came early: Monday was 36 percent of it and the last four days were nearly flat, which is what a card looks like when it is finding a floor rather than falling through one. We’d want another week before saying that out loud.

Iono's Bellibolt ex (279) 279/217, Ascended Heroes

What we held out

A hundred cards moved at least 2 percent and did not make it past the rules: 93 because the move churned rather than went somewhere, 7 because one day did the work and nothing afterwards confirmed it. Five of them moved enough to have made the ten, and we’d rather show you them than quietly print a different board.

Dreepy, Shining Fates Shiny Vault, +19.2%. It sat between $9.75 and $9.92 all week and then stepped to $11.62 on Sunday, the cutoff itself. One day, 91 percent of the move, nothing after it to confirm. It would have been second on the board. It is in Early Signal instead, because the shape is exactly the one we track.

Chandelure VMAX (Secret), Fusion Strike, +16.3%. Thursday carried most of it and the card dipped first, so it missed the direction test by a hair; either way it is a one-day story. Meowth ex (107), Perfect Order, +16.0%: up, down, up, down, net up. Dudunsparce (229), Paldea Evolved, +12.0%: one Saturday step, flat since. Dragapult ex (200), Twilight Masquerade, -11.4%: fell for four days and then bounced, which is not a card going somewhere.

Four cards in the universe closed Sunday under $10 and were set aside before any of this. No card was pulled off the board by the review rule this week.

What qualifies as a mover

Chase tier, Sword & Shield onward, $10 or more, from a set at least ninety days old. At least 2 percent across the week. The move went somewhere rather than churned. If one day carried three-quarters or more of it, a later price change has to confirm it. No sealed product, no graded prices, no stale quotes. The full rules, the guards and what we don’t cover are on the how-it-works page, not here.

Informational only. The Spike Report is a market pricing publication. It describes observed secondary market activity for collectible trading cards. It is not investment advice, financial advice, or a recommendation of any kind, and nothing in it is a directive to take any action with any card or collectible. Trading cards are collectibles, not securities. Prices can move sharply in either direction and past movement does not indicate future movement. Any decision you make is your own.

Early Signal

Three cards whose price data currently matches a pattern we track. This week: a one-day jump that arrived on the cutoff itself, a Secret Rare that climbed 11 percent in a month and has gone quiet, and the steepest two-week slide in Ascended Heroes. Included with Tome Intel and above.

Methodology. Data from JustTCG, the same source as the Chase Modern EN 50, so the two products cannot show contradictory prices for the same card. Coverage from this edition is the rebuilt universe: every chase-tier card at $10 or more across Sword & Shield, Scarlet & Violet and Mega Evolution, from sets at least ninety days old, 759 cards across 44 sets, of which 755 closed the week above the floor. How the Spike Report works is on its own page: The Spike Report · Pokémon | How It Works.

What changed this week. The universe, as set out at the top. The rules did not change. The era table loses its XY and Sun & Moon rows and its last-week column because the populations are not comparable; both can come back next week against this week’s figures. The Early Signal base-rate table sits out until the new universe has enough history to recompute it.

Sources this week. Set contents and release dates from Bulbapedia and the JustTCG set catalogue. Nice and Louisville Regional attendance from RK9 and Limitless TCG. Prismatic Evolutions and Ascended Heroes supply notes from TCGplayer’s price-trends column of 13 October and distributor reports of the Prismatic Evolutions ETB reprint on 23 September. Delta Reign’s 6 November date from Bulbapedia. Entries marked “none identified” mean no event we could find attaches to that specific card, not that the week was quiet.

Cadence. Data cutoff end of day Sunday, distributed Tuesday. Unchanged.
