Baltimore Ravens 41 @ Indianapolis Colts 23

Jesse Minter's first game as an NFL head coach opened exactly the way his last meeting with this offense went: Jonathan Taylor punched in the game's first score. It was the last thing that went right for Indianapolis for a long while, as Baltimore answered with 28 unanswered points and took a 31-13 lead into the half on Tyler Loop's 57-yard field goal.

The Ravens piled up 506 total yards, including 202 on the ground on 37 carries. Derrick Henry scored three rushing touchdowns, the prettiest a 32-yarder off left tackle, while Lamar Jackson ran for a score and hit Zay Flowers down the middle for a 54-yard touchdown on a night Baltimore threw for 324 yards without an interception.

The revenge subplot resolved cleanly. The Colts offense that scored five touchdowns on Minter's Chargers a year ago managed 251 total yards and three scores against his Ravens, coughed up two turnovers, and needed a 58-yard field goal to pad the total. New-era Baltimore looked like the more familiar team on the field, which was the whole question coming in.

Chicago Bears 59 @ Carolina Panthers 37

This was tied at 24 late in the second quarter and tied at 31 midway through the third, and then Chicago simply lapped the field, scoring 28 of the game's final 34 points. Caleb Williams went 21-of-29 for 269 yards with two touchdown passes and added scrambling scores of 9 and 29 yards, and the Bears finished with 552 total yards.

The ground game was the separator: 291 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns, three of them from D'Andre Swift, capped by his 28-yard dagger, with Kyle Monangai adding a 61-yard touchdown burst late in the third that broke the last tie for good.

Carolina scored 37 and lost by 22, which tells you everything about the day. Bryce Young threw for 361 yards and three touchdowns — two to Jalen Coker, including a 51-yarder — and ran for another, but three turnovers undid 478 yards of offense. The two teams combined for 1,030 yards, and our under never had a prayer.

Dallas Cowboys 20 @ New York Giants 28

Hours after his replacement's rout, John Harbaugh's Giants debut delivered the same verdict from the other direction: New York led wire to wire on Sunday night. Jaxson Dart was in control throughout, completing 23-of-29 for 230 yards and three touchdowns without a pick — two of those scores to Isaiah Likely, one of the Baltimore imports Harbaugh brought with him.

The physical, run-first identity Harbaugh promised showed up on schedule. The Giants ran 37 times for 165 yards, held the ball for 36:40, and got the opener from Cam Skattebo before Dart found Devin Singletary for the touchdown that made it a two-score game in the fourth.

Dallas never led. The Cowboys managed 244 total yards and just 69 rushing, and Dak Prescott finished 22-of-34 for 175 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. Our preview's key stat was his 14-3 career record against the Giants, his best against any opponent; it's 14-4 now, on the night New York was flagged 10 times for 114 yards and won comfortably anyway.

Commanders 22 @ Eagles 24 — The third game we featured Sunday morning was the closest of them: Philadelphia opened life after A.J. Brown with a win, but only a two-point escape against the rival it was favored to handle.

Saints 30 @ Lions 31 — Detroit needed every point at home, surviving by one in overtime in a 61-point game the shorthanded Saints nearly stole.

Bills 36 @ Texans 31 — Buffalo took the day's other road shootout, 67 combined points from a matchup billed as a defensive struggle.

Jets 23 @ Titans 10 — Robert Saleh got his payback and got it comfortably, handling the team that fired him by 13.

Buccaneers 27 @ Bengals 33 — Cincinnati's aggressive-opener script held: Joe Burrow's side scored 33 at home and held off a Tampa Bay team missing pieces at receiver.

Browns 10 @ Jaguars 34 — Jacksonville's case that 13-4 wasn't a fluke opened with a 24-point rout.

Falcons 13 @ Steelers 20 — Pittsburgh at home was the safe harbor it looked like: a grinding seven-point win in a 33-point game.

Cardinals 26 @ Chargers 14 — The week's largest spread produced its biggest upset, as Arizona — down three contributors and getting 9.5 — won outright by 12 in Los Angeles.

Dolphins 13 @ Raiders 27 — Las Vegas handled Tua-less Miami by two touchdowns in the matchup of first-time head coaches.

Packers 22 @ Vikings 39 — Minnesota's more-finished defense showed up and its offense outdid it, a 17-point division win over a Green Bay side missing Josh Jacobs.
