NFL Preview | October 19, 2026

Week 6 closes with the 49ers at 5-0 and a Commanders team that needs this game more than anyone on the schedule. San Francisco is without Nick Bosa and Deebo Samuel, Washington has Jayden Daniels back, and Brock Purdy is a handful of throws away from the top spot in NFL history for career passer rating. Kickoff is 8:15 PM ET (5:15 PM PT) on ESPN and ABC from Levi's Stadium.

KEY STAT

105.4

Brock Purdy's career passer rating. He needs five more attempts to qualify for the all-time leaderboard, where that mark would rank first in NFL history.

San Francisco is 5-0 after a 32-29 win at Seattle in which the defense forced four takeaways and Purdy led a fourth-quarter comeback, helped by Mike Evans (7 catches, 113 yards, a touchdown). Purdy has completed 98 of 142 passes for 1,196 yards and 13 touchdowns, with at least two touchdown passes and a passer rating of 90 or better in every game. He also needs three touchdown passes to reach 100 for his career. The 49ers are tied with Pittsburgh for the most Monday night wins in NFL history, at 55.

The problem is who's missing. Nick Bosa (calf), Deebo Samuel (hamstring), safety Marques Sigle and linebacker Garret Wallow were all ruled out Saturday, and Evans is questionable with rib and Achilles issues after not practicing Friday. Kyle Juszczyk is available, and Christian Kirk is in doubt. That leaves Purdy with a thinner group of receivers and a pass rush without its best player.

Washington is 1-3-1 and coming off a 24-24 overtime tie with the Giants that Daniels took responsibility for after the final play. He returned from a dislocated elbow in that game and looked like himself, with 302 total yards (199 passing, 103 rushing) and two rushing touchdowns. Jayden Daniels has no cushion behind him: Marcus Mariota is out with an MCL sprain, which leaves Athan Kaliakmanis as the only backup. Running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt, defensive end Charles Omenihu and edge rusher Javontae Jean-Baptiste are also out, and Stefon Diggs and Terry McLaurin are expected to play despite hamstring issues. Forecasts call for double-digit wind gusts at Levi's Stadium.

Washington wins if Daniels runs the way he did last week and the offense can finish drives against a defense missing Bosa.

San Francisco wins if Purdy keeps the offense efficient without Samuel, and the defense forces the turnovers it created in Seattle.

Lean Washington +7.5 (Toss-up), and lean the under 52.5 (Lean).

Driven by the injury report. San Francisco is 4-1 against the spread, but it is missing its top pass rusher and its top receiver while a healthy Daniels is the kind of quarterback who keeps a touchdown spread close, so the side is close to even. Washington's games are 4-1 to the over, but San Francisco's receiver depth is thin and wind is in the forecast, which supports the under.

What to Watch For Monday Night.

Watch whether Evans plays, how Purdy handles the wind without Samuel, and whether Daniels can keep Washington's drives alive against a front without Bosa. That closes out Week 6. We'll have the recap Tuesday, with every card graded and the season record updated.
