NBA Preview | October 28, 2026
The first full week of the 2026-27 season has been rough on the league's best players. Anthony Edwards, Jalen Williams, Jaren Jackson Jr. and Kawhi Leonard are among the names now facing weeks or months out, and Wednesday's 12-game slate is the first one shaped by all of it. So before the cards, the first edition of our weekly injury ledger, split by how long each player is expected to be out. Then Philadelphia visits an Indiana team waiting on Tyrese Haliburton's hamstring, Golden State visits a Minnesota team waiting on Edwards's knee, and an Oklahoma City team missing six players brings its 4-0 start to Dallas. Those three are free; the other nine cards are in Tome Intel. All times are Eastern.

Short term · day-to-day to about two weeks

Philadelphia Visits an Indiana Team Waiting on Haliburton
Philadelphia 76ers @ Indiana Pacers | 7:00 PM ET | ESPN
KEY STAT
3
Points the spread has moved toward Philadelphia since it opened, from Indiana +1.5 to +4.5, after Tyrese Haliburton's left hamstring tightness showed up on the injury report.
Philadelphia is 3-1 and coming off its first loss, 106-93 at home to Detroit on Sunday with Joel Embiid resting the second night of a back-to-back. Tyrese Maxey scored 29 in that game and LeBron James 18. Embiid is not on Wednesday's report, and the 76ers have had two days off. Ariel Hukporti, Dominick Barlow, Tacko Fall and Jabari Walker remain out.
Indiana's injury list is the story. Tyrese Haliburton, a week into his return from the Achilles tear, is questionable with left hamstring tightness after scoring 22 with nine assists in Monday's loss in Milwaukee. Ivica Zubac is out with a left ankle sprain, T.J. McConnell and Ben Sheppard are out, and Andrew Nembhard is questionable with neck stiffness. Pascal Siakam had 20 points and 13 rebounds on Monday.
Without Zubac, Indiana has little size to throw at Embiid, and if Haliburton sits, the Pacers' offense runs through Siakam and Nembhard. The market has already priced some of that.
Philadelphia wins if Embiid takes advantage of a frontcourt without Zubac, Maxey keeps up his pace, and the 76ers' rest shows in the second half.
Indiana wins if Haliburton is cleared, Siakam controls the glass, and the Pacers force Philadelphia's thin bench into heavy minutes.
Lean Indiana +4.5 (Strong), and lean the under 237.5 (Strong).
THE CARD · PHI @ IND
The line PHI -4.5 · total 237.5 · DraftKings (spread moved 3 toward Philadelphia from the open, total unchanged)
Our number IND -2.0 · total 225.0
So far PHI 1-3 O/U · IND 2-2 O/U
Rest & availability PHI two days off, Hukporti, Barlow, Fall and Walker out · IND one day off, Zubac, McConnell, Sheppard and Furphy out, Haliburton and Nembhard questionable
The public 71% of tickets on PHI · 57% on the under (SportsbookReview, as of Oct. 27)
Lean IND +4.5 (Strong) · Under ↓ 237.5 (Strong)
Driven by the number. Our number still has Indiana by two at home; the book opened with the Pacers as a short underdog and has moved three more points toward Philadelphia since Tyrese Haliburton's hamstring showed up on the report. Our number does not see that, and it does not see Ivica Zubac's ankle. Both tiers are Strong on the size of the gap, and Haliburton's status is the one to check before tip.
Minnesota Waits on Edwards's Knee; Curry Brings an 8-of-8 Night
Golden State Warriors @ Minnesota Timberwolves | 8:00 PM ET | NBA League Pass

Points Anthony Edwards scored in Monday's 127-125 loss in Cleveland, on 19-of-34 shooting. A day later, ESPN reported he needs arthroscopic surgery on his right knee.
Minnesota's season changed in a day. Anthony Edwards scored 47 in Monday's two-point loss in Cleveland, and on Tuesday ESPN's Shams Charania reported that he will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right knee and could miss up to two months. The official report still lists him as questionable for Wednesday with right knee injury management, so his status is the first thing to confirm. Donte DiVincenzo remains out after Achilles surgery.
Golden State finally won on Monday, 134-114 in Denver, and Stephen Curry was perfect: 24 points on 8-of-8 shooting. Yaxel Lendeborg added 31 points and 12 rebounds, but he is questionable with left foot soreness. Jimmy Butler, Moses Moody and Kristaps Porziņģis are out.
If Edwards sits, the Wolves turn to LaMelo Ball and Jaden McDaniels to carry the offense, with Rudy Gobert anchoring the defense. The book has already come three points toward Golden State, from Minnesota -6.5 to -3.5, which says the market expects him to be out.
Golden State wins if Curry stays hot, Lendeborg is able to go on the sore foot, and the Warriors' ball movement finds open shooters against a Wolves defense without Edwards.
Minnesota wins if Ball carries the offense, Gobert wins the paint, and the Wolves' depth holds up in the first game of what could be a long stretch without their star.
Lean Minnesota -3.5 (Strong), and lean the over 228.5 (Lean).
THE CARD · GSW @ MIN
The line MIN -3.5 · total 228.5 · DraftKings (spread moved 3 toward Golden State from the open, total up 1)
Our number MIN -9.6 · total 232.5
So far GSW 2-2 O/U · MIN 1-3 O/U
Rest & availability GSW one day off, Butler, Moody and Porzingis out, Lendeborg questionable · MIN one day off, Edwards questionable (see the ledger), DiVincenzo out
The public 70% of tickets on MIN · 59% on the under (SportsbookReview, as of Oct. 27)
Lean MIN -3.5 (Strong) · Over ↑ 228.5 (Lean)
Driven by the number, and this is the card to read most carefully tonight. Our number rates Minnesota off a 3-1 start built largely by Anthony Edwards and has no way to account for his knee. The book has already moved three points toward Golden State on the news. Strong here is the size of the disagreement between a number that can't see injuries and a market that can. The total moved to Lean after Tuesday's late game nudged the league scoring average up.
A 4-0 Thunder Team Missing Six Players Visits Dallas
Oklahoma City Thunder @ Dallas Mavericks | 9:30 PM ET | ESPN
KEY STAT
6
Oklahoma City players listed out for Wednesday: Jalen Williams, Cason Wallace, Chet Holmgren, Alex Caruso, Nikola Topić and Thomas Sorber. The Thunder are still 4-0.
Oklahoma City keeps winning while the injury report keeps growing. The Thunder beat Phoenix 125-114 on Monday with Ajay Mitchell scoring 30 and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander 26, a day after Jalen Williams (dislocated ankle, fractured fibula) and Cason Wallace (torn labrum) were hurt against the Clippers. Now Chet Holmgren (knee tendinitis) and Alex Caruso (ankle) are out too, and Mitchell is questionable with an ankle sprain.
Dallas is 2-2 and has its star back. Cooper Flagg returned from his shoulder sprain on Monday with 29 points and 11 assists in a 113-109 win in Miami, and P.J. Washington added 20. Kyrie Irving is questionable with knee management, Dereck Lively II and Sergio de Larrea are out, and Santi Aldama and Tarik Biberovic are doubtful.
This is the most short-handed game on the slate for both sides. The matchup that's left is Gilgeous-Alexander against Flagg's Mavericks defense, with Isaiah Hartenstein anchoring the Thunder frontcourt alone.
Oklahoma City wins if Gilgeous-Alexander takes over, Mitchell is cleared and keeps scoring, and Hartenstein holds up as the only big in the rotation.
Dallas wins if Flagg builds on Monday, Irving is cleared, and the Mavericks use their healthier rotation against a Thunder team with six players out.
Lean Dallas +5.5 (Lean), and lean the under 229.5 (Lean).
THE CARD · OKC @ DAL
The line OKC -5.5 · total 229.5 · DraftKings (spread unchanged from the open, total down 1)
Our number DAL +1.3 · total 222.4
So far OKC 1-3 O/U · DAL 2-2 ATS, 1-3 O/U
Rest & availability OKC one day off, J. Williams, Wallace, Holmgren, Caruso, Topić and Sorber out, Mitchell questionable · DAL one day off, Lively and de Larrea out, Aldama and Biberovic doubtful, Irving, Marshall and Martin questionable
The public 64% of tickets on OKC · 70% on the over (SportsbookReview, as of Oct. 27)
Lean DAL +5.5 (Lean) · Under ↓ 229.5 (Lean)
Driven by the number. Oklahoma City is 4-0, but our number has Dallas slightly ahead at home after the Mavericks' win in Miami, and it can't see either injury list, which is long on both sides. The public is heavily on the over; our total sits seven under it.

Watch Haliburton's and Edwards's statuses before the 7:00 and 8:00 games, how a six-man-short Thunder team holds up in Dallas, and whether Dybantsa debuts in Cleveland. Several of tonight's widest gaps come from injuries our number can't see, and those cards say so. That's 12 cards on the side and 12 on the total, three free and nine in Tome Intel. We'll have the recap Thursday with every card graded.
