NBA Preview | October 27, 2026

Tuesday has four games, and two of them are on NBC. Detroit, 3-0, visits a Knicks team that has started its title defense 0-3. Victor Wembanyama's Spurs host an 0-3 Sacramento team as the biggest favorite on any board we've printed this season. And the night ends at 11:00 PM ET with two unbeaten teams in Los Angeles, after Luka Dončić scored 52 on Sunday. Those three are free; the Nets at Celtics card is in Tome Intel. All times are Eastern.

The Champions Are 0-3, and Detroit Is 3-0

Detroit Pistons @ New York Knicks | 8:00 PM ET | NBC

KEY STAT

3-0 vs. 0-3

Detroit's start against New York's. The Pistons have covered every game; the Knicks have gone under the total in every game.

New York's title defense has started with three losses. The Knicks lost to Philadelphia on ring night, in Boston on Friday, and 111-102 at home to Orlando on Sunday, when Jalen Brunson scored 28 on 12-of-28 shooting and Karl-Anthony Towns had 22 points and 14 rebounds. Orlando's Franz Wagner put up 23, 13 and nine. The offense is the issue: New York hasn't scored more than 103 in any game. Jose Alvarado is out with an ankle sprain.

Detroit keeps finding ways. The Pistons won 106-93 in Philadelphia on Sunday without Jalen Duren, with Cade Cunningham scoring 26 with eight rebounds and eight assists and Duncan Robinson adding 21. Daniss Jenkins added 18. Duren is still out with a hamstring strain, and Isaiah Joe (hip) and Ausar Thompson (ankle) are questionable.

The matchup is Towns against a Detroit frontcourt without Duren, and Brunson against a Detroit defense that just held Philadelphia to 93. The line hasn't moved from 3.5, and the public is split down the middle.

Detroit wins if Cunningham controls the pace again, Collins and Paul Reed hold up against Towns, and the Pistons keep the Knicks' offense under 105.

New York wins if Brunson finds his shot, Towns wins the glass against a Detroit team without Duren, and the Garden gets the champions' first win.

Lean Detroit +3.5 (Strong), and lean the over 218.5 (Toss-up).

THE CARD · DET @ NYK

The line NYK -3.5 · total 218.5 · DraftKings (unchanged from the open)

Our number NYK +3.5 · total 221.5

So far DET 3-0 ATS · NYK 0-3 O/U

Rest & availability DET one day off, Duren out, Isaiah Joe and Ausar Thompson questionable · NYK one day off, Alvarado out

The public Tickets split evenly on the side · 60% on the over (SportsbookReview, as of Oct. 26)

Lean DET +3.5 (Strong) · Over ↑ 218.5 (Toss-up)

Driven by the number. Detroit is 3-0 and has covered every game; New York is 0-3. Our number has the Pistons by three and a half on the road, against a book that still has the champions favored at home. Strong is the size of that seven-point gap, with Jalen Duren still out for Detroit.

An 18.5-Point Line for Wembanyama Against an 0-3 Kings Team

Sacramento Kings @ San Antonio Spurs | 8:00 PM ET | NBA League Pass

KEY STAT

18.5

San Antonio's spread against Sacramento, the largest on any board in our previews so far this season.

San Antonio found its first win on Saturday, 122-106 in Dallas, with Victor Wembanyama scoring 23, Dylan Harper 22 and De'Aaron Fox and Stephon Castle 19 each. The Spurs have had two days off since. Tobias Harris and Jayden Quaintance remain out.

Sacramento is 0-3 and short-handed. The Kings lost to the Clippers, to Portland 128-120 on Friday, when Domantas Sabonis had 27 points, 19 rebounds and 10 assists and Darius Acuff Jr. scored 33, and to Memphis on Sunday. Dylan Cardwell, Keegan Murray, Maxime Raynaud and Ben Simmons are all out.

The 18.5 says the book expects a rout. The matchup that decides whether it gets there is Wembanyama against Sabonis, one of the few bigs in the league who can rebound with him, and whether Sacramento's guards can keep the game within reach long enough for it to matter.

Sacramento wins if Sabonis wins the glass against Wembanyama, Acuff and Zach LaVine get hot from the perimeter, and the Kings keep it within single digits into the fourth.

San Antonio wins if Wembanyama controls both ends, the Spurs' young backcourt runs on a short-handed opponent, and the starters get the night off early.

Lean Sacramento +18.5 (Strong), and lean the under 230.5 (Toss-up).

THE CARD · SAC @ SAS

The line SAS -18.5 · total 230.5 · DraftKings (spread unchanged from the open, total down 1)

Our number SAS -7.4 · total 229.2

So far SAS 1-2 ATS, 0-3 O/U

Rest & availability SAC one day off, Cardwell, Keegan Murray, Raynaud and Simmons out · SAS two days off, Harris and Quaintance out

The public 65% of tickets on SAC · 77% on the over (SportsbookReview, as of Oct. 26)

Lean SAC +18.5 (Strong) · Under ↓ 230.5 (Toss-up)

Driven by the number. San Antonio's 1-2 start keeps our number at about seven, while the book has the Spurs by 18.5 against an 0-3 Kings team missing four players. Strong is the size of the widest spread we've printed this season, not a read that Sacramento is close in talent.

Luka's 52 and Two Unbeaten Teams to Close the Night

Portland Trail Blazers @ Los Angeles Lakers | 11:00 PM ET | NBC/Peacock

KEY STAT

52

Points Luka Dončić scored in Sunday's 132-123 win in Utah, on 17-of-30 shooting with 10 assists. The Lakers are 3-0.

The Lakers are 3-0, and on Sunday it was Luka Dončić, with 52 points and 10 assists in Utah. Austin Reaves added 29. Through three games, the Lakers have scored 384 points and won each by eight or more. Walker Kessler is available with his finger splint; Cameron Carr and Adou Thiero are out.

Portland is 2-0 and rested, with three days off since beating Sacramento 128-120 on Friday. Deni Avdija led that win with 26 points, Toumani Camara added 19 and Damian Lillard 19 more. The Blazers opened the season with a 41-point win over Phoenix. Shaedon Sharpe is out after meniscus surgery, and Scoot Henderson (ankle) and Branden Carlson (concussion protocol) are questionable.

The matchup is Dončić against Portland's defense, which held Phoenix to 83 on opening week. The rest edge is Portland's; the line has come back a point toward the Blazers since it opened.

Portland wins if Avdija and Camara make Dončić work on both ends, Lillard hits the shots that matter late, and the Blazers use their rest in the second half.

Los Angeles wins if Dončić and Reaves keep scoring at this pace, Kessler wins the glass, and the Lakers stay unbeaten.

Lean Portland +2.5 (Toss-up), and lean the under 236.5 (Toss-up).

THE CARD · POR @ LAL

The line LAL -2.5 · total 236.5 · DraftKings (spread moved 1 toward Portland from the open, total unchanged)

Our number LAL -0.8 · total 233.6

So far POR 1-1 O/U · LAL 2-1 O/U

Rest & availability POR three days off, Sharpe out, Henderson and Carlson questionable · LAL one day off, Carr and Thiero out, Kessler available

The public 60% of tickets on LAL · 72% on the over (SportsbookReview, as of Oct. 26)

Lean POR +2.5 (Toss-up) · Under ↓ 236.5 (Toss-up)

Driven by the number. Two unbeaten teams, and our number has them within a point of each other. Both leans sit inside our thresholds.
