NBA Preview | October 26, 2026

Monday has nine games, and three of them put the extremes of the first week on the same floor. Minnesota, 3-0 with every win by 22 points or more, is on the second night of a back-to-back in Cleveland. Miami, 0-3 with Giannis Antetokounmpo, hosts a Dallas team waiting again on Cooper Flagg's shoulder. And Golden State, also 0-3, closes the night in Denver against a Nuggets team coming off Jamal Murray's 42. Those three are free; the other six cards are in Tome Intel. All times are Eastern.

Minnesota Brings a 3-0 Start, and a Back-to-Back, to Cleveland

Minnesota Timberwolves @ Cleveland Cavaliers | 7:00 PM ET | NBA League Pass

KEY STAT

22+

Minnesota's smallest margin of victory so far: 25 in Miami, 22 in Orlando and 23 over Toronto on Sunday. The Timberwolves have also covered all three.

Minnesota has not had a close game yet. The Timberwolves beat Toronto 117-94 on Sunday in a meeting of 2-0 teams, with Anthony Edwards scoring 26 and LaMelo Ball adding 15 points and eight assists on 5-of-8 shooting. That makes three straight wins by 22 or more and three straight unders. Monday is the second night of a back-to-back.

Cleveland is 1-1 and still settling in. The Cavaliers lost in Philadelphia on Thursday and then held off Brooklyn 125-121 on Saturday, when Donovan Mitchell scored 22, Jarrett Allen had 21 on 7-of-8 shooting and Evan Mobley added 20 points and 10 rebounds. Khalifa Diop and Nae'Qwan Tomlin are out. Cleveland has had a day off; Minnesota has not.

The matchup is Allen and Mobley against Rudy Gobert, and whether Cleveland's size can slow a Wolves offense that has been efficient enough to win without needing big nights from Edwards. The line has come back a point toward Minnesota since it opened.

Minnesota wins if Ball and Edwards keep sharing the offense, Gobert holds his own against two Cleveland bigs, and the back-to-back doesn't show in the fourth quarter.

Cleveland wins if Mitchell gets downhill against a tired defense, Allen and Mobley win the glass, and the Cavaliers drag the Wolves into a close game for the first time.

Driven by the number. Minnesota has won all three games by 22 or more, which pushes our number to the Wolves by more than four on the road, against a book that has Cleveland favored at home with Minnesota on a back-to-back. Strong is the size of that gap. The under has hit in all three Minnesota games.

Miami Is 0-3 With Giannis, and Dallas Is Waiting on Flagg

Dallas Mavericks @ Miami Heat | 7:30 PM ET | NBA TV

KEY STAT

0-3

Miami's record, straight up and against the spread. The Heat lost by 25 to Minnesota, by 17 to Detroit and by five in Charlotte on Saturday.

Miami's start has gone from surprising to concerning. The Heat lost 115-110 in Charlotte on Saturday, when Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 14 on 4-of-11 shooting and fouled out in 25 minutes. Davion Mitchell had 22 points and 10 assists and Bam Adebayo added 20, but Charlotte's Brandon Miller scored 34. Pelle Larsson is listed as available; Miami has had a day to regroup.

Dallas has its own question. Cooper Flagg left Friday's win in Indiana with a left shoulder sprain after a flagrant foul and did not appear in Saturday's 122-106 loss to San Antonio; he is questionable for Monday. The Mavericks are also without Dereck Lively II, Santi Aldama, Tarik Biberovic and Naji Marshall, with Caleb Martin doubtful. Without Flagg on Saturday, Sergio de Larrea led Dallas with 21.

The 8.5-point line says the book expects Flagg to sit or be limited. If he does, Miami's size with Giannis and Adebayo is the clear advantage against a depleted Dallas frontcourt; if he's cleared, this is a lot of cushion for a home team that hasn't won yet.

Dallas wins if Flagg is cleared, Kyrie Irving controls the pace, and the Mavericks keep Giannis in foul trouble the way Charlotte did.

Miami wins if Giannis stays on the floor and gets to the rim, Adebayo and Mitchell keep producing, and the Heat use their size against a Dallas team missing four rotation players.

Lean Dallas +8.5 (Strong), and lean the under 236.5 (Lean).

Driven by the number. Miami is 0-3 against the spread and 0-3 straight up, so our number has the Heat as a slight home underdog, while the book has them by 8.5 against a Dallas team that may be without Cooper Flagg again. Strong is the gap; Flagg's status is the one to check before tip.

An 0-3 Warriors Team Closes the Night in Denver

Golden State Warriors @ Denver Nuggets | 10:00 PM ET | NBCSN

KEY STAT

42 + 35

Jamal Murray's 42 points and Nikola Jokić's 35, with 15 rebounds and 10 assists, in Saturday's 141-135 win over New Orleans.

Denver's offense found itself on Saturday. After scoring 84 in its opener in Oklahoma City, the Nuggets beat New Orleans 141-135, with Jamal Murray scoring 42 and Nikola Jokić putting up 35 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists. The defense is the question: Denver gave up 135 and didn't cover as an 11.5-point favorite. Spencer Jones and Julian Strawther are out, and Cameron Johnson and Alpha Diallo are doubtful.

Golden State is 0-3 after losing 131-122 in Phoenix on Saturday, when Devin Booker scored 43. Stephen Curry did not appear in that box score on the second night of a back-to-back, and he is not on Monday's injury report. Yaxel Lendeborg scored 26 and De'Anthony Melton 25. Jimmy Butler, Moses Moody and Kristaps Porziņģis remain out, and Gui Santos is questionable.

The matchup is Jokić against a Warriors frontcourt that has been short-handed all week, and whether Curry's return can give Golden State the shot-making it lacked in Phoenix. The 7.5 is unchanged from the open.

Golden State wins if Curry is back and sharp, Draymond Green makes Jokić work for his touches, and the Warriors win the three-point battle.

Denver wins if Jokić and Murray carry over Saturday's form, the defense tightens after giving up 135, and the Nuggets win the glass against a thin Warriors frontcourt.

The public 61% of tickets on DEN · 62% on the under (SportsbookReview, as of Oct. 25)

Lean GSW +7.5 (Lean) · Under ↓ 234.5 (Toss-up)

Driven by the number. Denver has not covered either of its first two games, including a six-point win over New Orleans as an 11.5-point favorite, and our number has the Nuggets by about five. That clears our threshold by a hair; the total is inside it.
