NBA Preview | October 25, 2026
Sunday has seven games and the first real look at which early starts are holding up. The 2-0 Lakers visit Utah in the afternoon. Toronto and Minnesota, both 2-0 and both covering every number so far, meet on NBA TV. And Philadelphia, 3-0 and the only East team with three wins, is on the second night of a back-to-back against a 2-0 Detroit team that will be without Jalen Duren. Those three are free; the other four cards are in Tome Intel. All times are Eastern.
The New Look Lakers Are 2-0 and Bring It to Utah
Los Angeles Lakers @ Utah Jazz | 5:00 PM ET | NBA League Pass
KEY STAT
28
Points Austin Reaves scored in Friday's 125-117 win over the Clippers, with nine assists. Through two games, the Lakers' new look offense has more than one engine.
The Lakers have answered the first question of their season. They beat Golden State by 22 on Wednesday and the Clippers 125-117 on Friday, when Austin Reaves scored 28 with nine assists, Luka Dončić added 23 and seven assists, and Walker Kessler had 22 points and eight rebounds. Kessler is still playing with a finger splint and is listed as available; Cameron Carr and Adou Thiero are out.
Utah split its first two, losing by 20 in Memphis and then beating New Orleans 120-119 on Friday, when Jaren Jackson Jr. had 24 points and 10 rebounds and Keyonte George added 19 points and 10 assists. Lauri Markkanen scored 16. The Jazz are still without Jusuf Nurkic, which leaves Jackson and Jaxson Hayes to deal with Kessler on the glass.
It's the afternoon game, and the Lakers have scored 252 points across two games. The matchup to watch is Jackson against Kessler: if Utah's frontcourt can make the Lakers' center work on defense, the Jazz have the shooting to stay inside the number.
Los Angeles wins if Reaves and Dončić keep sharing the load, Kessler wins the glass against a Jazz team without Nurkic, and the Lakers' new rotation keeps finding each other.
Utah wins if Jackson controls the paint, George keeps the turnovers down, and the Jazz get the kind of balance that beat New Orleans.
Lean Utah +6.5 (Lean), and lean the under 236.5 (Lean).
THE CARD · LAL @ UTA
The line LAL -6.5 · total 236.5
Our number UTA +1.6 · total 231, 5.5 on the total
So far LAL 1-1 O/U
Rest & availability LAL one day off, Carr and Thiero out, Kessler available · UTA one day off, Nurkic out
Lean UTA +6.5 (Lean) · Under ↓ 236.5 (Lean)
Driven by the number. The Lakers' two wins move our number toward them, but Utah's one-point win over New Orleans keeps the Jazz close at home, so the gap lands just short of Strong. The total sits 5.5 under a number that assumes two good offenses.
Two 2-0 Teams, Both Covering Everything
Toronto Raptors @ Minnesota Timberwolves | 7:00 PM ET | NBA TV
KEY STAT
4-0
These teams' combined record against the spread through two games each. Both have also gone under the total in every game.
Toronto has looked like the team the market expected once Kawhi Leonard arrived. The Raptors beat Chicago by 43 on Wednesday and won 112-102 in Washington on Friday, when Scottie Barnes had 28 points and 14 rebounds and RJ Barrett added 23. Kawhi Leonard had 16 and nine rebounds in 28 minutes. Nate Bittle is the only player on Toronto's report.
Minnesota has been just as convincing in a different way. The Timberwolves won by 25 in Miami behind Anthony Edwards' 45, then won 115-93 in Orlando on Friday with four players scoring 14 or 15 and Ayo Dosunmu handing out 10 assists. Rudy Gobert anchored a defense that held the Magic to 93. Donte DiVincenzo remains out after Achilles surgery.
Both teams have held their opponents down: Toronto's two games finished at 227 and 214 total points, Minnesota's at 237 and 208. The matchup is Barnes against Jaden McDaniels, and whether Edwards or Leonard takes over the fourth quarter of a game the book has as nearly even.
Toronto wins if Barnes keeps putting up big lines, Leonard makes the shots that matter late, and the Raptors' size bothers Gobert on the glass.
Minnesota wins if Edwards gets back to his opening-night form, Gobert controls the paint, and the Wolves' defense holds a third straight opponent under 110.
Lean Minnesota -1.5 (Toss-up), and lean the under 231.5 (Lean).
THE CARD · TOR @ MIN
The line MIN -1.5 · total 231.5
Our number MIN -2.1 · total 225.4
So far TOR 2-0 ATS, 0-2 O/U · MIN 2-0 ATS, 0-2 O/U
Rest & availability TOR one day off, Bittle out · MIN one day off, DiVincenzo out
Lean MIN -1.5 (Toss-up) · Under ↓ 231.5 (Lean)
Driven by the number. Two 2-0 teams that have each beaten the spread twice, and our number agrees with the book within a point on the side. Both have gone under in both games, and the total sits six points above our number.
Philadelphia's 3-0 Start Meets Detroit Without Duren
Detroit Pistons @ Philadelphia 76ers | 7:30 PM ET | NBA League Pass
KEY STAT
28-11-10
Joel Embiid's line in Saturday's 127-116 win over Milwaukee, the first triple-double of his season. Philadelphia is back on the floor 24 hours later.
Philadelphia keeps winning in different ways. On Saturday it was Joel Embiid, with 28 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists in a 127-116 win over Milwaukee, alongside 27 from Jaylen Brown, 26 from Tyrese Maxey and 17 points and 13 rebounds from VJ Edgecombe. That makes the 76ers 3-0. Sunday is the second night of a back-to-back, and with LeBron James listed as questionable for Saturday with back management, Philadelphia's report for this one is the one to wait for.
Detroit is 2-0 after beating Boston and then Miami 128-111 on Friday, when John Collins scored 23 and Paul Reed had 19 points and 11 rebounds off the bench. That bench work matters now: Jalen Duren is out with a right hamstring strain, and Ausar Thompson is questionable with an ankle sprain. Cade Cunningham had eight assists in each of the first two games.
Without Duren, Detroit's answer for Embiid is Reed and Collins, which is a long night if Embiid is as sharp as he was on Saturday. The other side is Philadelphia's legs: three games in five days for a roster leaning on a 41-year-old and a 32-year-old center.
Detroit wins if Reed and Collins hold up against Embiid, Cunningham controls the pace against a tired defense, and the Pistons win the second half.
Philadelphia wins if Embiid stays aggressive against a frontcourt missing Duren, Maxey and Brown keep scoring, and the back-to-back doesn't show until the game is decided.
Lean Detroit +2.5 (Toss-up), and lean the over 226.5 (Toss-up).
THE CARD · DET @ PHI
The line PHI -2.5 · total 226.5
Our number PHI -1.2 · total 228.8
So far DET 2-0 ATS · PHI 1-2 O/U
Rest & availability DET one day off, Duren out, Ausar Thompson questionable · PHI second night of a back-to-back, report not yet filed
Lean DET +2.5 (Toss-up) · Over ↑ 226.5 (Toss-up)
Driven by the number. Philadelphia's three wins and Detroit's two leave our number close to home court, inside the book's 2.5, so both leans are toss-ups. Our number does not account for Jalen Duren's absence or Philadelphia's back-to-back, which pull in opposite directions.

What to Watch For Sunday.
Watch whether Utah's frontcourt can slow Kessler in the afternoon, who takes over late between Edwards and Leonard, and whether Philadelphia's back-to-back shows against a Detroit team without Duren. In Tome Intel, the Knicks look for their first win with Paolo Banchero out for Orlando. That's seven cards on the side and seven on the total, three free and four in Tome Intel. We'll have the recap Monday with every card graded.
