The Story So Far

Ravensburger unveiled Hyperia City at the Disney Lorcana TCG panel at D23 2026 in September, confirming it as the game's 14th main set. The name nods to Hyperion Studio, Walt Disney's original pre-Burbank animation studio — fitting for a set built around a fictional metro setting Ravensburger describes as blending "creative districts, music-led stories, and a back-alley mystery." It lands seven weeks after Attack of the Vine!, and this preview is built entirely from Ravensburger's own reveals and outlet coverage of the panel and subsequent card drops — not yet from hands-on play, since the set does not release until next month.

What Makes It Special

Hyperia City is doing three things at once: introducing Coco to the game for the first time, giving Zootopia its Lorcana debut too, and rolling out the first entirely new resource mechanic since the game's 2023 launch. Ravensburger's own framing at D23 leaned into the mechanic specifically — Art Director Liz Richards singled out "the exciting possibilities of ink drops and how they are used" alongside the set's Dreamborn artwork, and Lead Game Designer Lukas Litzsinger put it more directly in Ravensburger's own release: "Ink drops can completely change the tempo of a game. We really wanted to focus in on a single mechanic in this set, and we're excited to see how players will experiment with using them in their decks." It's a heavier structural swing than Attack of the Vine!'s team-card and dual-Shift additions, which extended existing systems; Ink Drops add a second resource pool that sits outside the inkwell entirely.

The city itself is divided into named districts — City Center, Wandering Straits, Old Towne Hyperia, and the Marigold District, where the Coco street performances take place — and Ravensburger has said the set's Enchanted-rarity cards follow a consistent "night-out" theme, from a big concert moment to staying up late on a passion project, with the two Iconics sharing that same visual style.

New to This Set

Mechanic debut: Ink Drops. A one-use, counter-based resource separate from the inkwell. A player can remove an Ink Drop from play to pay for 1 ink, on top of whatever the inkwell provides — but unlike the inkwell, drops don't refresh each turn and don't require discarding a card from hand to generate. Ravensburger describes them as bankable across every ink color, so a player can stockpile a reserve over several turns rather than spending immediately. They come from token-style cards in packs (in a slot separate from the normal rarity slot), and starter sets ship with the physical tokens needed to track them. In the set's own fiction, the mechanic is centered on a location called M.A.G.I.C. (the Multidisciplinary Academy for Genius, Imagination, and Creativity), where returning Big Hero 6 glimmers — including Honey Lemon — are the ones shown experimenting with it.

Several revealed cards build around generating or spending drops: Higitus Figitus (a Sword in the Stone–inspired song, sung for free by a character costing 6 or more, that produces three Ink Drops), Madam Mim – Resourceful Trickster (draws two cards if an Ink Drop was spent to play her), Go Go Tomago – Extreme Tester (generates one Ink Drop whenever she's challenged), and Wasabi – Called Into Battle (gets +2 Strength just for a player holding a drop, which also powers up his Twin Blades ability). Ravensburger has said each of the six ink colors interacts with drops differently — Amber, for instance, leans toward giving drops to all players rather than hoarding them.

Ink Drop counter, blue design, Hyperia City

The Ink Drop counter itself — one of at least two art variants shown so far. Reminder text: "This counter doesn't count as a card. You may remove this counter to pay 1 ink."

Ink Drop counter, gold design, Hyperia City

The second confirmed Ink Drop art — same reminder text, different illustration. Both are numbered EN·14 like the rest of the set.

Franchise debut: Coco. Seven cards have been revealed so far, all leaning into the film's music and family themes. Two versions of Miguel Rivera appear — Promising Musician gains a lore whenever he sings a song, while Astonishing Musician can Shift onto the first and returns a character from the discard pile to hand. Dante shows up twice as well, and Dante – Strange and Endearing is Evasive and gains a lore if its player has 10 or more cards in their discard pile. That same discard-pile payoff shows up twice more: Land of the Dead – Marigold Bridge gives extra lore under the same threshold, and Pepita – Imelda's Right Hand (Shift 3, base 4⁄ 6) gets +2⁄+2 while its player holds 10 or more discarded cards — so it's a running theme across at least three cards, not a one-off. Héctor Rivera – Worldwide Sensation is a Legendary Shift-4 Mentor built around singing songs, and Ernesto De La Cruz – Idol Of Millions gains lore off an opponent's discarded song card. A Ruby action/song, Though I Have To Say Goodbye, rewards discarding songs from the top of the deck with a Strength buff. Several of these use the pre-existing Singer mechanic, and alebrije companions round out the reveals.

Franchise debut: Zootopia. Ravensburger's own reveal copy ties this one directly to the new mechanic: "glimmers of Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde are investigating the emergence of ink drops." Confirmed cards so far include Judy Hopps – Day Camp Instructor, two versions of Nick Wilde (Inquisitive Harbor Master and Providing Backup, the latter a promo), and Chief Bogo – Police Commissioner. A glimmer of Gazelle is also shown performing at an in-fiction concert, though no card has been confirmed for her yet.

Two Iconics confirmed for this set, and now with real card text. Cinderella – Unintentional Icon (7 ink, Shift 5, 4⁄ 6) reads: "BESPOKE DESIGN — At the end of your turn, you may look at the top 2 cards of your deck. Put one on either the top or the bottom of your deck and the other into your inkwell facedown and exerted." Mickey Mouse – Best in Town (1 ink, Adventurous, 0⁄ 4) reads: "HOT DOG! — At the end of your turn, if this character is exerted, each player gets 1 Ink Drop." Numbered 242/204 and 241/204 respectively.

Illustrious rarity update: our last note flagged disagreement over whether the new "Illustrious" tier (six cards per set, 23 copies each) starts with this set. That's resolved — a follow-up Lorecast revealed the first Illustrious card, The Evil Queen – Commanding Presence, specifically for Into the Inkdark (Q1 2027), not Hyperia City. Hyperia City tops out at Iconic.

Pull Rates

Not available. Ravensburger doesn't publish official pull rates even after a set releases, and the community sampling that normally fills that gap (the kind we cite for past sets) doesn't exist until packs are actually in hand. Check back after prerelease week.

How It Compares

Hyperia City follows the same cadence as every Iconic-era release — a main expansion roughly every ten weeks — but the mechanical ambition looks closer to a mid-era reset than an incremental set. Where Attack of the Vine! extended team cards and dual-Shift onto the existing inkwell system, Ink Drops introduce an entirely separate resource layer, which Ravensburger has only done once before in the game's history (the inkwell itself, at launch). On the franchise side, this continues the same pattern Attack of the Vine! set with Monsters, Inc., Turning Red, and Up: one or more new Pixar or Disney properties debuting each release, with Coco taking this slot. Before Hyperia City, the next product on the calendar is Illumineer's Quest: The Great Hunny Rescue, a smaller collaborative co-op release on October 2 — two weeks ahead of Hyperia City's own prerelease.

Collector Interest Grade

We're not scoring this one yet. Our Collector Interest Grade for Lorcana sets is built from five weighted factors — Community Reception (30%), Chase Card Desirability (25%), Competitive Relevance/Playability (20%), Artistic/Design Merit (15%), and Franchise/Nostalgia Pull (10%) — and three of those five need data that doesn't exist before a set is in players' hands: community reception, chase card pricing, and competitive results. Scoring it now from reveals alone would just be a guess dressed up as a number. We'll publish the full breakdown once real data is available after release.

Special Notes

Ravensburger has not published rules text for Ink Drops beyond the general description above; treat the specifics as announced but not yet fully detailed until official card text is available. On dates: Ravensburger's own product page confirms October 16 for prerelease, and every outlet we checked agrees except one syndicated pair that printed October 14 — that looks like a simple error rather than a real conflict, so we're treating October 16 as settled. "Hyperia City" is likewise the confirmed name; a couple of early write-ups used "Hyperion City" (the studio the set is named after), but Ravensburger's own materials are consistent on "Hyperia."

Fun Facts / Trivia

  • Hyperia City's name references Hyperion Studio, the animation studio Disney operated in Los Angeles before relocating to the Burbank lot that houses Walt Disney Animation Studios today.

  • The product lineup announced so far includes standard booster boxes ($143.76 MSRP for a 24-pack display), a two-player starter kit (with the physical Ink Drop tokens included), an Illumineer's Trove ($49.99), and a prerelease box ($39.99), plus two playmats — a Miguel design and a "Snowboarding Stitch" design.

  • Illumineer's Quest: The Great Hunny Rescue, a Winnie the Pooh–themed collaborative quest product, releases October 2 — two weeks ahead of Hyperia City and worth knowing about separately if you're tracking the fall release calendar.

  • At the same D23 panel, Ravensburger made a separate, surprise announcement that a digital version of Disney Lorcana — playable on desktop and mobile — is officially in development. It's unrelated to Hyperia City itself, but it's the other major thing that came out of the same reveal, and the first confirmation of an official digital client after years of unofficial fan-made ones.
