WNBA Recap | July 11, 2026

Three games on Saturday's slate, and the standings continue to tighten at the top while separating at the bottom. Minnesota held on late against a New York team that clawed back from a big deficit, staying tied with Las Vegas at the top of the Western Conference. Portland pulled off a genuine road upset over Atlanta behind a complete team effort. And Las Vegas delivered the most lopsided result of the day, blitzing Phoenix by 48 points to reassert themselves as the Western Conference's most dominant team on any given night. Here's how it all went down.

Lynx Hold Off Liberty's Rally to Stay Tied Atop the West

New York Liberty 85, Minnesota Lynx 90

Minnesota built a double-digit lead through the first three quarters before New York roared back with a 30-point third quarter that cut the deficit to nothing. The Lynx steadied themselves down the stretch, outscoring the Liberty 29-23 in the fourth to close it out. Final: 90-85, Minnesota improves to 17-6, tied with Las Vegas atop the Western Conference standings.

Kayla McBride was the story, going 8-of-17 from the field (5-of-11 from three) for 25 points at 66.6 percent true shooting with four steals. Olivia Miles added 23 points on 6-of-16 shooting, getting to the free throw line seven times and converting all seven, though her shooting from the field was inconsistent. Natasha Howard chipped in 16 points on 5-of-9 shooting with nine rebounds. Minnesota's 15 offensive rebounds generated 16 second-chance points, and their nine steals kept New York's offense from ever fully settling into a rhythm, even during their third-quarter surge.

New York fought back hard behind Sabrina Ionescu, who scored 25 points on 9-of-20 shooting with eight rebounds and five assists. Jonquel Jones posted a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds, and Breanna Stewart added 17 points despite four turnovers. Marine Johannes provided a spark off the bench, hitting four of nine three-point attempts for 14 points. New York's bench outscored Minnesota's reserves 24-11, and the Liberty's third-quarter comeback was one of the more impressive stretches of basketball either team has played this season, but it wasn't quite enough to complete the road upset. New York falls to 13-10, sixth in the Eastern Conference.

Fire Stun Dream on the Road Behind Complete Team Effort

Portland Fire 102, Atlanta Dream 92

Atlanta led for most of the game and had every reason to feel comfortable, but Portland's balanced offensive attack and relentless defensive pressure in the fourth quarter flipped the script. The Fire shot 60 percent from the field and 48.3 percent from three, getting contributions from up and down their roster in what was one of their best performances of the season. Final: 102-92, Portland improves to 10-13, while Atlanta falls to 13-10.

Teja Oblak was electric, going a perfect 4-of-4 from the field for 10 points with seven assists. Emily Engstler was the engine, posting a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, adding four assists, three steals, and shooting 5-of-8 from the field. Megan Gustafson added 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting, and Serah Williams was a perfect 6-of-6 from the field for 15 points. Carla Leite dished out 10 assists to go with 13 points, though six turnovers reflected how aggressively Atlanta pressured the ball. Portland's 28 assists on 36 made field goals showed a team playing selfless, connected basketball on the road against a quality opponent.

Atlanta had individual bright spots but couldn't slow down Portland's attack. Allisha Gray led the Dream with 20 points on 8-of-18 shooting, and Madina Okot added 19 points on 7-of-14 shooting with eight rebounds. Jordin Canada posted a double-double with 10 points and 12 assists, but four turnovers and Atlanta's 20 percent three-point shooting (6-of-30) reflected a team that struggled to generate consistent offense outside the paint. Atlanta scored 52 points in the paint but couldn't overcome Portland's efficiency from beyond the arc.

Wilson and Gray Lead Aces to a 48-Point Blowout of Mercury

Phoenix Mercury 58, Las Vegas Aces 106

This one was over before it started. Las Vegas opened with a stunning 29-9 first quarter and never let Phoenix within shouting distance the rest of the way, building a lead as large as 54 points. The Aces shot 50.6 percent from the field, dished 31 assists on 39 made baskets, and got 46 points from their bench in one of the most complete team performances of the season. Final: 106-58, Las Vegas improves to 18-6, tied with Minnesota atop the West.

A'ja Wilson posted a double-double with 21 points and 15 rebounds on 8-of-16 shooting, adding three assists and a block. Chelsea Gray was sensational as a facilitator, going 6-of-12 from the field for 15 points with 12 assists against just one turnover, a remarkable 12.0 assist-to-turnover ratio. NaLyssa Smith was nearly perfect, shooting 6-of-7 for 14 points. Justine Pissott provided one of the most efficient shooting performances of the season off the bench, going 7-of-8 from the field (5-of-6 from three) for 19 points. Las Vegas's defense was suffocating throughout, holding Phoenix to 34.8 percent shooting and forcing 18 turnovers that were converted into 24 points.

Phoenix had almost nothing go right. Kahleah Copper led the Mercury with just nine points on 4-of-14 shooting, and no Phoenix player reached double-digit efficiency. Monique Akoa Makani added 13 points on 5-of-13 shooting, and Lexi Held contributed 11 points. Alyssa Thomas managed just seven points on 3-of-8 shooting. Phoenix's 22.6 percent three-point shooting and 18 turnovers reflected a team that had no answers on either end of the floor against a Las Vegas squad playing its best basketball of the season. Phoenix falls to 8-16, twelfth in the Western Conference.

MIN, POR, & LVA Wins.

Saturday's slate reinforced just how tight the race at the top of the Western Conference has become, with Minnesota and Las Vegas both sitting at the top after commanding performances, though Minnesota needed to survive a furious New York comeback to keep pace. Portland's road win over Atlanta is one of the more encouraging results of their season, a complete team effort that should give the Fire real confidence heading into the stretch run. And Las Vegas's 48-point demolition of Phoenix was a reminder of just how dominant this Aces roster can be when everything clicks, from Wilson's interior presence to Gray's elite playmaking to a bench that produced 46 points.

Star of the Night: Chelsea Gray, Las Vegas Aces

15 points | 6-of-12 FG | 12 assists | 1 turnover | 12.0 assist-to-turnover ratio | Double-Double

Gray's 12 assists against a single turnover in a 48-point blowout is one of the most efficient playmaking performances of the season. She orchestrated Las Vegas's historic offensive night from start to finish, and the sheer ball security on that assist total makes this an easy choice over Wilson's strong double-double.

Dud of the Night: Kahleah Copper, Phoenix Mercury

9 points | 4-of-14 FG | 28.6% field goal percentage | minus-73

Copper's shooting struggles in a game that got out of hand early reflected a night where nothing worked for Phoenix's leading scorer. Her minus-73 plus-minus, the worst mark of the entire day across all three games, tells the story of a Mercury team that had no answers and a leading scorer who couldn't find any rhythm against a Las Vegas defense playing its most complete game of the season.
